THE RESTRAINER

Fellow Believers, disciples of Jesus Christ, Children of God, Born Again by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ:

It’s crucial in these very dark days that we be spiritually and heavenly minded.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Eph 6:12)

2Thessalonians Chapter 2 instructs us in the order of events leading up to “the Day of the Lord”.

FirstLet no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first (2Thess. 2:3)

Next He Who now restrains ..the man of lawlessness .., the son of destruction.. will do so until He is taken out of the way. (2Thess. 2:6&7)

Next – He Who restrains will be taken out of the way (2Thess. 2:6&7)

ThenThen that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, (2Thess. 2:8&9)

Brethren, the apostasy has now already taken place, or is very nearly complete.  Next in the sequence of events is that God will take the Holy Spirit out of the way from restraining the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction; and that man will be revealed.  He will be freed to come in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders.

So, with the completion of the apostasy, and with sin and darkness covering the earth, is this the time that God will remove the restrainer?

Jesus said,

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.  For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.” (Matt. 24:36-37)

But Jesus also said, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (John 16:13)

I do not now know that day and hour.  The Holy Spirit will guide us as He did Noah – step by step; day by day.  But I’m warning and urging you to join me in seeking God to know what He is doing in these wicked times.  We’re not to be overcome or even distracted by the evil circumstances, but to walk in faith with Jesus.

Perhaps The Father will continue, in His mercy and for His purposes, to continue restraining “the lawless one” by His Spirit for now.  But, inevitably, as Jesus tells us:

“For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. (Matt. 24:37)

Just like in the days of Noah, there is an actual day when God’s plan will continue inevitably to unfold.

We are charged with understanding the signs of the times, and we are exhorted to be ready.  Given the corruption of the world and, finally, the apostasy of the Church; “the Day of the Lord” is increasingly imminent.

Are we ready?

In Christ,
Duncan

There are various schools of thought about the restrainer and who or what is being restrained and about the end times in general, but the reminder to stay focused on Christ and make Him the object of our faith and affection is always timeless and of primary importance. Be ready. Above all else, be ready
